The winery brought home two of Bulgaria's three grand gold medals
Villa Yambol Winery officially received its awards from the prestigious Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (CMB) wine competition. The ceremony in Sofia brought together winemakers from all over the country. The event was also attended by Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh and Deputy Minister of Agriculture Yanislav Yanchev. Twenty-seven Bulgarian wineries won a total of 73 medals in all editions of the competition during the year, with the well-known producer from Yambol leading the way with two Grand Gold, six Gold, and three Silver awards.
The grand gold medals were awarded to the Kabile Reserve Syrah and Vineyards Selection Topolitsa wines, also from the Syrah variety. Four wines from the series dedicated to the Thracian traditions in winemaking earned gold medals: Kabile Reserve Merlot 2019, Kabile Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2019, Kabile Chardonnay 2024, Kabile Syrah 2021. World experts awarded two gold medals to the highest class wines of the producer Vineyards Selection from the Bolyarovo micro-region, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2018, and Vineyards Selection from Tenevo, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, 2019.
"What we see is the essence of our winemakers, all 27 award-winning wineries. They demonstrate the quality we have and what we offer. People will talk about the quality and taste of Bulgarian wines, and this is a way to promote Bulgaria as a wine tourism destination, but also to make our name known around the world," said Deputy Minister of Agriculture Yanislav Yanchev.
The director of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, Cantin Avou, explained that around 15,000 wines from around the world are tasted each year and added: "It is important to appreciate the award-winning Bulgarian wines because these are wines that have been tasted in a 'blind tasting' by international experts from around the world."
CMB is the most prestigious global wine competition with blind tastings, where it is not clear which wine is being tested. The competition was created 30 years ago by the Belgian media company Vinopres and has established itself as the largest international competition. It is popular as the most rigorous and professional international competition, which gives particular weight to the medals it awards. For 20 years, it has been traveling and organized in countries famous for wine production—France, Spain, Italy, Austria, Portugal, etc.
