High praise was given to the naturally sparkling wine Vineyards Selection, the Thracian-inspired KABILE series, and the best-selling rosé Villa Yambol
One of Bulgaria’s oldest wineries—Villa Yambol—won a total of 10 medals at this year’s edition of the prestigious international competition, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. Eight of the awards were gold—a testament to the quality of the wines the winery produces across various price categories.
Among the highest-rated wines is the naturally sparkling wine from the Vineyards Selection series—the winery’s top tier, crafted exclusively from selected vineyards in ecologically pristine micro-regions. The wine is made from Chardonnay grapes using the traditional method—the same technique employed for the most prestigious champagnes in France. Gold medals were also awarded to Vineyards Selection Rosé, Vineyards Selection Tenevo (a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot), and Vineyards Selection Topolitsa, made from Syrah. The rosé from the Villa Yambol series—the winery’s best-selling line—also received an award. This award is further proof that high quality is not reserved solely for boutique wines but can also be accessible to the general consumer.
The KABILE series, inspired by the ancient Thracian city of Kabile, located just a few kilometers from the winery, also won three gold medals. The award-winning wines were KABILE Mavrud and Cabernet Sauvignon, KABILE Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, and KABILE Reserve Merlot.
This year, over 7,800 wines from around the world participated in the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. All samples were evaluated through blind tasting, and according to the competition’s rules, only about 30% of the participants receive medals. The scores were assigned by 320 international judges—oenologists, sommeliers, wine journalists, and merchants from 56 countries. In 2026, Armenia hosted the competition.
