The winery’s rosés from the Vineyards Selection and KABILE series, vintage 2023, snag two gold medals.
Villa Yambol has left its mark on yet another global wine forum as its wines won five medals, two gold and three silver, at the prestigious Mundus Vini competition in Germany in February. The two gold medals were awarded to the winery’s rosés from the Vineyards Selection 2023 and KABILE 2023 series while KABILE Merlot Reserve 2016, KABILE Mavrud and Cabernet Sauvignon 2019, and Vineyаrds Selection Bolyarovo Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 came away with silver.
At the 34th installment of the competition, a total of more than 7,000 wines from 45 countries were appraised by some 250 wine experts from 55 countries over the course of six days. The jury was given only basic information about the wines, such as vintage and grape variety, so that the ranking was made solely based on the quality of the products. Bulgarian wine makers came away with 32 medals in total, 23 gold and 9 silver. Villa Yambol was one of the few Bulgarian wineries that impressed the judges with rosé wines from the current vintage.
‘The spring tasting is always an excellent predictor of the quality of new vintages that are just hitting the market and wine makers from Eastern Europe are coming up with increasingly high-quality wines’ the organizers of Mundus Vini concluded. At this year’s competition, wine makers from Italy won the largest number of medals followed by their colleagues from Spain, Portugal and France.
